My husband and I dedicated each of our adopted sons in the courtroom as part of their adoption finalizations because we wanted the emphasis to be that it was God who put our family together, and not some judge.

Here is  Kyler’s dedication letter.  Caleb and Kyler are biologically half-brothers, which explains Kyler’s letter. There were some difficult circumstances surrounding Kyler’s adoption, but I hope that this baby dedication letter for an adopted child can be a model for others to consider the kind of foundation and legacy they will provide for their adopted children, regardless of the circumstances.

Dear Kyler,

From the time we first heard that God was knitting you together,  we cared for you and began praying
for you.  While we longed to be your parents, we knew that we had to lay your destiny in God’s
sovereign hands.  Mommy and Daddy were so blessed to have been able to parent your brother
Caleb, and we knew that God had another baby in store for us, but we had no idea what His timing
would be and whether it would be you.   Our desire for you was that you would be safe, healthy, loved
and that you would grow up experiencing the love of Jesus.  We know that your birth mother Nicole
cared very much for you and that it was very difficult for her to realize that she was simply unable to
provide the home you needed.  We are forever grateful to her and to your biological father Ryan for
consenting to us adopting you.

Psalm 27:10 says, “Though my mother and father forsake me, the Lord will receive me.”  There will
be times in your life when you may not understand things and may experience disappointment, but
always remember that God will never forsake you, He cares for you, and He is always with you.  In
Psalm 68:5, we are told, “A father to the fatherless is God in His holy dwelling.  God sets the lonely
in families.”  It is not a judge, agency, lawyer, birth parent or even us as your mother and father who
causes you to be a member of our family, but it is God who makes us a forever family.  Before
anyone else even knew you existed, God created you and had a plan for your life.  Being adopted
into our family is part of that plan, but even more importantly, God wants you to be adopted as an
heir to the kingdom of Heaven by believing in His son Jesus who died for your sins to make that
possible.  You are valuable to God, so valuable that He paid an infinite price for you.  God has given
you grace and mercy, so show that to others also – to your biological parents, to your siblings, to us
and to anyone else who may not deserve it, yet seeks your favor.

Our nickname for you is Kyler-smiler (not just because it rhymes, but) because your smile brightens
our home and brings joy to our hearts.  It doesn’t take much to get you giggling.  You are a very
inquisitive little boy.  From the day we brought you home, you’ve gotten into everything!  We hope that
you will some day use this curiosity to seek after God – the most  important and satisfying thing
you’ll ever do.  We’ve really enjoyed being your Mommy and Daddy.  You are a blessing to us — an
incredible gift from God that we look forward to unwrapping every day.  We look forward to seeing
you grow into the boy, and eventually the man, that God intends you to be.  And so, we dedicate you
to Him this day, whatever His  perfect plans may be for your life.

We love you,
and God loves you even more!

Your Mommy and Daddy
